March 27- I Am: The Good Shepherd (John 10:11-18)

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.  14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

John 10:11–18 (ESV)

I. The Good Shepherd:

1. Lays Down His Life

John 15:13 (ESV)

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

1 “My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocates with the Father—Jesus Christ the
righteous one. 2 He himself is the atoning sacrifice, for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.”

1 John 2:1-2 (CSB)

2. Knows His Sheep

1 “The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Psalm 23:1–4 (ESV)

A. He Protects the Sheep
B. He Secured His sheep

9 “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

John 10:9–10 (ESV)

C. He Owns His sheep

II. The Sheep:

1. Know His Voice
2. Follow His Example

1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1–2 (ESV)
